Data & Data Analysis

School success depends on the ability of skilled staff to analyze and use data to plan, implement and guide instruction. However, many educators have little background with assessment results or the implications drawn from assessment.

Because analysis of data is now a recommended step in any school or district improvement planning, it is vital to identify data specifics to support decision-making. In a data-driven culture of evidence, schools are likely to:

  • Identify and solve the problems that need attention
  • Identify appropriate solutions to those problems
  • Know how they are progressing toward achievement of their goals

QES supports these steps by utilizing high quality district and site data, and our methodology involves site leaders and grade level teachers in the analysis process. Both state and local assessment results are examined to determine school wide, grade level and individual student strengths and weaknesses. Factors contributing to or detracting from progress are also identified and analyzed.

From there, practical plans that immediately address a school’s highest priority needs are developed. Plans and timelines are monitored and, as needed, adjusted throughout the year to meet goals, particularly for specific areas of instruction or student populations. Ongoing analysis of data provides insights into midcourse changes necessary to reach goals. This inclusive process, although brief, has significant impact on the outcome of continuous improvement for all students.
